Fairfield University’s Quick Center Hosts Orchestra Lumos for “American Gems!”

Celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary with “American Gems!” Fairfield University invites the community to experience the music of Stamford’s Orchestra Lumos—formerly the Stamford Symphony—on Sun., March 8 at 3 p.m. at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 27, 2026)—Led by music director Michael Stern, Orchestra Lumos makes its Quick Center debut with a concert spotlighting iconic American voices—Copeland, Stravinsky, and Scott Joplin—each inspired by the genius of J.S. Bach. This performance is part of the ensemble’s 2025-26 season celebrating America250.

The program includes J. S. Bach’s “Air on the G String,” Arthur Foote’s “Air and Gavotte,” Igor Stravinsky’s “Concerto in E flat (Dumbarton Oaks),” Aaron Copland’s “Clarinet Concerto,” Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer,” and more. Juan Esteban Martinez serves as principal clarinet, The Louisa S. Greene & Family Chair.

This celebratory concert is part of Fairfield University’s yearlong commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary—America250: The Promise and Paradox. The presentation of American Gems at the Quick Center is made possible through the generosity of Norman and Celeste LaCroix.
