Fire Alarm and Smoke Leads to a Heroin Drug Bust in Naugatuck

Naugatuck fire and police crews originally responded to an apartment complex for a smoke alarm and smoke.

It all started as a smoke alarm going off, but when the Naugatuck Fire Department responded Wednesday morning they found a lot more than they were anticipating.

Police say at 10:35 a.m. fire and police crews responded to 214 North Main Street on a report of smoke alarm sounds and smoke coming from one of the apartment units.

During the investigation, police found 4.5 grams of heroin in the apartment.

Tyish Smith, 44, of North Main Street was charged with illegal possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, and risk of injury to a child. He was held on a $250,000 bond.
