Supporting High-Achieving College Juniors And Seniors Of Financial Need Who Experience Unexpected Hardships

Naugatuck, CT - The children of James P. and Debra Fitzgerald Healy started a foundation as a way of "paying it forward" and also as a way of honoring their parents. Debra Healy reached out to Naugatuck Patch and asked Patch Mayor Nancy Sasso Janis to remind the community of the mission of the Healy Foundation. "We were and continue to be so humbled by this gift to us and in its mission, to help so many others," she writes.

Jim Healy was a beloved custodian at Andrew Avenue Elementary School who we lost in 2019 and is greatly missed. Click to read more about Mr. Healy.

Most importantly, the Foundation has announced that it has extended the scholarship application deadline to May 1 because of the issues created by COVID-19. "The mission of the Foundation addresses exactly what is going on right now: unexpected financial hardship," writes Mrs. Healy.

I'm hoping that you and your family are safe and well and that your Easter is full of blessings.-Debra Healy

Our Mission

Any student encountering unexpected hardship (such as parental unemployment or a family member diagnosed with severe illness) must not only deal with this adversity but also continue advancing their own life and achievements. It's an unenviable position for any person, but unfortunately, low-income students face the burden of navigating additional complexities due to financial constraints. High-performing, low-income students who encounter unexpected financial hardship risk disrupting their academic progress and obscuring their pathway to financial security.

Since our founding in the Winter of 2010, we have raised over $100,000 from our generous donors to support these deserving students.

Who We Serve

Rising or current college Junior or Senior students at an accredited four-year university or college
GPA above 3.0
Existing financial need combined with unexpected hardship
United States citizenship
