As of Monday, July 20, 2020, the Cheyenne River Reservation has 38 active and closely-monitored cases of COVID-19. Mass testing efforts have increased, with testing sites in each community on the Reservation on designated days. Thanks to decisive and strong leadership from Chairman Frazier and the Tribal Council, efforts continue to protect the health and safety of everyone living on the Reservation.

Mandatory isolation is in effect for those infected with the virus, as well as those potentially exposed to the virus. Masks are required to be worn in all businesses on the Reservation. Families are instructed to shelter in place and the curfew for all residents is from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Vital programs like EBT and WIC continue to operate, and the Reservation’s supermarket is regularly restocked and following health and safety protocols.

Deputies of the Tribal police are monitoring access points to the Reservation in order to implement a “comprehensive tracking and tracing system to keep the virus at bay.” The Tribal Coronavirus Command Center has let us know that there is no specific or urgent need for supplies or in-kind donation collections at this time.

Like other schools across the country, administrators at the Tiospaye Topa School have sent out a survey to parents to explore the logistics of reopening in the fall. During the summer months, our partners at Tiospaye Topa and the Running Strong for American Indian Youth program are coordinating and providing meal and food assistance for families on the east end of the Reservation.
