Man Charged With Burglary, Credit Card Theft In Naugatuck: Police
Police said a man accused of breaking into a car parked in Naugatuck and attempting to use a stolen credit card was arrested this week.

NAUGATUCK, CT β A man accused of breaking into a car parked in Naugatuck last month and attempting to use a stolen credit card at a store in town was arrested Monday on burglary, larceny and other charges, according to police.
In a news release posted to Facebook, police said officers were called to The CLUB Health and Fitness gym, located on Prospect Street, July 23 around 11 a.m. after receiving a report of a vehicle break-in with items taken.
After further investigation, officers determined the suspects had forced entry into the vehicle and stole the driver's purse, then tried to make fraudulent charges with a credit card at a liquor store in town, according to police.

Through investigative efforts, police identified two suspects in the case and obtained arrest warrants for both suspects, police said.
Edgardo Mercado, 21, of Meriden, was arrested on a warrant Monday charging him with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief and illegal taking of payment card, as well as a number of motor vehicle and conspiracy charges.

A second suspect remains at large, according to police.
