Man Dies Following Explosion, Blaze In Waterbury
Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of an explosion and fire which claimed the life of a man in Waterbury.
WATERBURY, CT — A 56-year-old man died early Monday from injuries he sustained in an explosion and fire at a home on Horseshoe Drive Sunday, according to Waterbury police.
Police and firefighters were summoned to the house, at 220 Horseshoe Dr., at about 5:47 p.m. on Sunday. Emergency responders removed the victim from the residence and extinguished the blaze.
The victim, who police have not yet identified, was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, but he succumbed to his injuries at 3:30 a.m. Monday, police said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are still investigating the cause of the explosion and fire, officials said. A preliminary investigation indicates the explosion happened inside the residence, and there is no evidence of danger to the public, according to police.
As part of the ongoing probe, the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit planned to conduct a controlled detonation at the scene on Monday.
