Man Drove, Drank Beer With Child In Car: Naugatuck Police

Police say the accused had a beer in the center console of the vehicle.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck man is accused of drinking while driving a motor vehicle, while a child was in the vehicle, police said.

At 6:39 p.m. Tuesday an officer responded to North Church Street for an erratic driver, police said. The officer located the erratic vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle investigation on Bridge Street, police said.

Joseph L. Stockwell, 50, of North Spring Street was identified as the driver and there was a juvenile in the vehicle, police said. The officer located a cup of beer in it resting in the center console, police said.

During the investigation it was determined that the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was given a court date of August 16 and released on a $1,000 bond.

Stockwell is charged with risk of injury to a child, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, DUI with child passenger, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
