Man, 70, Ran Over 'Multitude' of Canada Geese On Purpose: CT DEEP

Other cars stopped to let the geese cross, but police say the accused drove around them and ran the geese over.

WATERBURY, CT — A 70-year-old Waterbury man is accused of running over a "multitude" of geese intentionally Sunday morning, state officials said. The man is accused of illegally passing two vehicles that were stopped while the geese were attempting to cross the road, officials said. At least one Geese Gosling was killed.

At 8:19 a.m. Sunday, Waterbury Police Department received a 911 emergency call from a witness who observed a man drive over multiple Canada Geese with their vehicle on North Main Street in front of the Knotty Pine package store in Waterbury, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The witness alleged the suspect illegally passed two vehicles on the shoulder who were stopped for the Canada Geese crossing North Main Street, and drove over multiple Geese Goslings, killing at least one, state officials said.

The witness was able to get the license plate of the offending vehicle and relay it to the Waterbury Police Department. Shortly after, the suspect who was identified as Moses Wilson, 70, of Waterbury contacted the Waterbury Police Department and admitted to driving over several Canada Geese on North Main Street, officials said.

Wilson was detained by Waterbury Police. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) were notified about the incident.

During the investigation it was determined through witness statements that Wilson intentionally drove his vehicle over the Canada Geese as they crossed the roadway, officials said. DEEP EnCon Police obtained video surveillance footage showing Wilson’s black sedan driving over the Canada Geese (Adults and Goslings) as they attempted to cross North Main Street.

Wilson was arrested for allegedly committing the following violations; Cruelty to Animals, Illegal Method of Taking Waterfowl, Taking Waterfowl during Closed Season, and Passing on the Right. Wilson was released on a $1,500 non-surety bond with a court date of 6/20/18 at G.A. 4 Waterbury.
