Man Struck By Vehicle After Interrupting Car Break-In: Naugatuck PD

The victim left his home to "confront suspect(s) attempting to burglarize his vehicle," police said. He was critically injured, cops said.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A 42-year-old man, who was attempting to confront suspect(s) who were trying to burglarize his car, was "struck intentionally" by a vehicle and is in critical condition, police said Tuesday night.

At 4:40 a.m. police responded to Alma Street for a person struck by a car. Police said the man, 42, had left his home to "confront suspect(s) attempting to burglarize his vehicle."

"It should be noted that the Borough was struck by a rash of car break-ins around the same time," police said. "While doing so, the victim was struck by a black vehicle, which subsequently fled the scene leaving the victim with life-threatening injuries in the roadway."

Police said the initial evidence indicates that the "victim was struck intentionally."

Naugatuck police and EMS provided emergency care to the victim, who was transported to Waterbury Hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

In a statement, police said, "Naugatuck Police remind the community the dangers these criminals can pose if citizens confront them. We ask anyone who may have footage of car break-ins or have information on the identity of the suspect(s) to contact Naugatuck Police at 203-729-5221 or the NPD confidential tip line at 203-720-1010."
