More Firefighters Needed In Naugatuck?: Report

The budget request for next year includes a significant increase in overtime spending.

NAUGATUCK, CT — The Naugatuck Fire Department is seeking a $287,374 spending increase for next year's budget which represents a 6.5 percent hike, My Citizen's News reports.

The total budget request is currently at $4.65 million. Why the 6.5 percent hike? My Citizen's News reports that $161,818 of the increase is needed for overtime expenses. The Fire Department is hopeful that hiring new firefighters, which they say is definitely needed, would reduce overtime costs and Mayor Pete Hess has said he will speak to fire union leaders, the paper reports.
