Motorist Strikes Student Pedestrian In Waterbury: PD

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, according to police.

WATERBURY, CT — A 16-year-old student was struck by a vehicle while walking near a local high school Thursday morning, according to police.

Sgt. Joseph Morais said the student was injured, but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. As of late Thursday, the pedestrian was listed in critical condition at an area hospital, police said.

All parties involved remained on scene and were cooperative, according to police.

The accident happened at 8:27 a.m. near Kennedy High School, on Highland Avenue. The student attends Kennedy High, according to police.

Police said the pedestrian was crossing Highland Avenue at the time of the collision.

The department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
