Owner Of Injured Dog Found On Highway Sought By Naugatuck Animal Control

Naugatuck Animal Control​ is looking for the owner of a dog who jumped from a moving vehicle and was later euthanized​ due to her injuries.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck Animal Control is looking for the owner of a dog who jumped out of a moving vehicle Sunday afternoon and was later euthanized due to her injuries.

In a Facebook post, animal control officials said the dog is believed to have jumped from a moving vehicle on Route 8 North, in the area of Exit 26, Sunday around 1:30 p.m.

Connecticut State Police Troop I confirmed this also caused a pair of two-car collisions on the highway, according to animal control.

Animal control officers immediately drove the dog to a veterinarian hospital, where she was initially in stable condition with a head injury.

According to Naugatuck police, the dog's condition "severely worsened" overnight due to head trauma and she was humanely euthanized at the recommendation of a vet early Monday morning.

The dog was approximately 3 to 5 years old and was not microchipped. The vehicle, which did not stop, is described as a burgundy older model sedan, according to animal control.
