Naugatuck To Appoint McAllister As New Chief Of Police

NAUGATUCK, CT — C. Colin McAllister, Naugatuck's interim police chief since January, is expected to be named the borough's new police chief this week, pending approval of a contract by the Board of Mayor and Burgesses at its regular meeting Tuesday.

McAllister, who was the department's deputy chief, was named interim chief following the retirement of former Chief Steven Hunt, who had been a member of the Naugatuck Police Department for more than 20 years.

Chief McAllister began his career law enforcement with the Southbury Police Department before transferring to the Naugatuck Police Department. Throughout his career, Chief McAllister served as lieutenant, sergeant, field training officer, and commanded the regional accident investigation team. Chief McAllister earned a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from Boston University, masters’ degrees in criminal justice leadership from Northeastern University, and a master’s in public administration from Post University, in addition to graduating from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and PERF’s Senior Management Institute of Police.

During this transitional time of leadership within the police department, the department has held various outreach events with the goal of connecting with the members of the Borough. We will continue holding discussions with our community stakeholders on the overall department’s direction and continued progress. Chief McAllister holds our community’s opinion of the police department in the highest regard and it is his hope that together, we can work toward strengthening our partnerships within Naugatuck.

The Naugatuck Police Department aims to keep the public informed on changes in our department’s leadership, who is serving Naugatuck in their respective leadership roles and ensure that all public feedback will be welcomed now and in the coming months.
