Naugatuck Police Chief Resigns; Deputy Chief Named As Interim
Steven Hunt served as chief in Naugatuck since 2019.
NAUGATUCK, CT — Steven Hunt, Naugatuck's police chief and a member of the department for more than 20 years, retired last month, and has been replaced on an interim basis by Deputy Chief C. Colin McAllister.
"During Chief Hunt’s career he has served in various capacities including detective, sergeant, detective sergeant, lieutenant, and patrol captain before eventually being appointed chief of police in 2019," the department said in a statement. "During Chief Hunt’s tenure he oversaw a number of initiatives that increased community engagement, and helped guide our department through the COVID 19 pandemic."
The 48-year-old Hunt's tenure ended on Dec. 31, but his contract runs through June 30, reported My Citizen News. Naugatuck will conduct a search for a permanent chief in the future.

Hunt, a Naugatuck native, is married to Joanna Hunt, principal at Hillside Intermediate School in Naugatuck, and they have three children.
In addition to various successful initiatives, Hunt also spearheaded the department's re-accreditation as under the Police Officer Standards and Training Council.

Last spring, two independent investigations cleared Hunt of any wrongdoing in connection with racist social media posts made by one of his daughters.
Hunt reportedly said that he will look for a new job in the future, but he first intends to take time off.
"We wish Chief Hunt the best in his future endeavors and thank him for his service the Borough!" the department said.
