Naugatuck Bans Registered Sex Offenders From Town Property

The new ordinance was adopted after a woman shared a painful story with Mayor Pete Hess.

NAUGATUCK, CT — There are currently 38 registered sex offenders living in Naugatuck as of Jan. 3. And because of an ordinance approved by the Board of Mayor and Burgesses a sex offender will no longer be allowed on "borough-owned parks, schools, playgrounds, recreation centers, event centers, pools, gyms, sports fields, trails, passive recreational areas, open space land, or sports facilities," reports the Republican-American.

The ordnance was approved after a woman shared a painful story with Mayor Pete Hess, the Rep-Am reports. This new ordinance means if a parent is a sex offender that they can not go to ballgames or even walk on town owned property. A fine of up to $250 could be administered.
