NAUGATUCK, CT — In-person learning at Naugatuck High School will resume on Monday after a student tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week, Superintendent of Schools Christopher Montini announced Friday.

The school was dismissed early on Wednesday and all students switched to distance learning after a senior tested positive for the virus. The student, who doesn’t ride the bus, is assigned to in-person learning on Tuesdays and Thursdays and was last in the school on Tuesday, according to officials.

All classrooms and physical spaces were cleaned and sanitized and the district began contact tracing with the Naugatuck Valley Health District.

“I’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these unprecedented times,” Montini wrote in an update to parents. “The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our priority. NPS has collaborated with the Naugatuck Valley Health District to complete the contact tracing investigation and determined that in-person learning at Naugatuck High School can resume on Monday, September 14, 2020, following the Monday-Wednesday / Tuesday-Thursday schedule. NPS will continue to work hard to implement strategies to safeguard the health of our students and staff and will keep health and safety at the forefront in all that we do.

“I’d like to thank the NHS staff who implemented the safety and mitigation protocols which led to the quick return to in-person learning.”
