Naugatuck High Students Compete in CT Science Olympiad
This year marks the first time NHS has entered the competition.

This post was written by Gena Spiller, Science Dept. Chair at Naugatuck High School.
A team of fifteen Naugatuck High School (NHS) students competed in the CT Science Olympiad on Saturday March 28th. This was the first time NHS has entered the competition that is part of a nationwide organization dedicated to promoting science education through conducting competitive science tournaments.
The fifteen students entered seventeen of the twenty three events, primarily in teams of two. The events covered many science topics within Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science and ranged from building models to performing experiments or taking a written test.

Two of our students placed second earning silver medals in the event “It’s About Time.” The time keeping device constructed and their performance on a problem solving test put the team of Jonathan D’Oliviera and Salvatore Gulotta ahead of thirty other teams. We are very proud of the entire team of Science Savages for their overall performance and sportsmanship exhibited at the competition.
Team members included Chloe Bevan (12), Sophie Boucher (11), Cheyenne Brennan (12), Brittany Burkman (11), Olivier Civil (11), Michael Cocchiola (12), Jonathan D’Oliviera (11), Eliott Dupont (9), Jasmine Grey (11), Salvatore Gulotta (9), Abby Karbowicz, Meghan Lauer (11), Samantha Rodriguez (11), Ryan Russett (12), and Saumya Shah (9)
