Officials say they are seeking a grant to pay most of the costs but even if its denied they will proceed with the project.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck is preparing to spend $65,000 in an effort to expand hiking trails near Nichols Road, Larkin Bridal Trail and the Middlebury town line, the Republican-American reports. The borough is pursuing a grant which would pay 80 percent of the costs.
The expanded trails would add another 1.75 miles and includes constructing a parking lot off Nichols Road.
Mayor Pete Hess told the Rep-Am that even if the grant request is denied, he's committed to the project. Naugatuck officials are coordinating with Middlebury officials.
