Naugatuck Police, Businesses Seek Deal with Uber to Ensure Free Rides Home for Intoxicated Patrons

Officials say that they want to ensure everyone gets home safely and reduce the number of DUI arrests in the Borough.

NAUGATUCK, CT — The Naugatuck Police Department and the Naugatuck Economic Development Corp. are working on a creative way to reduce drunken driving arrests in the Borough and most importantly ensure people get home safely from local bars and restaurants, the Republican-American reports.

Discussions are ongoing but it appears that if you find yourself too intoxicated to drive home that you will soon be able to contact Uber and the ride will be completely or almost completely paid for by the NEDC and possibly other groups, the Rep-Am reports.

Last year, Naugatuck police made 210 DUI arrests and 150 have been made this year. 66 Church has already been paying for rides home for customers too intoxicated to drive. Borough officials hope to begin the program in time for the holiday season.
