Naugatuck Police Cracking Down on Curbside Parking
Police say the issue is a quality of life one.

The Naugatuck Police Department Facebook page is a great way to keep informed as to what is going on in the Borough.
On Monday, police wrote the following message saying they are cracking down on vehicles that are illegally parked on sidewalks and are asking residents for assistance.
They use a photo of a car doing exactly that to make their point.

Here is the rest of the Police Department’s Facebook post: but it is very clear that this car wasn’t going anywhere…which leads us to our next problem; the car is parked on a sidewalk, on a public road where parking on a sidewalk , on a public road is illegal.
The exceptions to curbside parking are that the vehicle is legally parked ON a public road but OFF of a sidewalk. Next, a vehicle properly parked curbside vehicle, must be moved every 24-hours (which obviously, this car was not) and of course, the vehicle must be registered.

The owner of the car pictured in the photograph was located and ultimately was able to move the vehicle before it was ticketed and towed, however the issue still remains in that curbside parking in many Borough neighborhoods is limited at best. The Naugatuck Police Department struggles with finding vehicles which are in violation of this law… except of course in winter, when violating cars start to resemble snow drifts!
The Naugatuck PD would like help in identifying vehicles that violate the curbside parking laws - this is quality of life issue for many residents and the best way to alleviate parking problems is to ensure immobile and unregistered vehicles are off the street.
If you are having an issue with one of these vehicles in your neighborhood, let us know by calling the PD at 203-729-5221 (Please do not list them on this Facebook post as this site is not monitored by a dispatcher 24 hrs a day like our phones are!) and we will be glad to have one of our “patrol specialists” (Aka: A Cop) come out and take look.”
