Naugatuck Police Plan To Address Illegal Fireworks Concerns

It seems like everyone is setting of fireworks at all hours of the night.

NAUGATUCK, CT — It seems like everyone is reporting hearing fireworks at all hours of the night and Naugatuck police say they hear you and are working to remedy the situation.

“The Naugatuck Police Department is aware of an uptick in complaints related to illegal fireworks. In response to growing community concern,” police said. “Naugatuck Police Department will be increasing our enforcement efforts which may include additional patrol officers and unmarked vehicles to identify the source of these complaints.

“Furthermore, if a member of the public wishes to report these types of complaints, we encourage detailed information, particularly locations or addresses so that we can best respond, and ideally identify the source. LEGAL:

Sparklers and fountains, which produce sparks when lit, are not considered fireworks and are legal in the state, but cannot be sold or used by anyone younger than 16.

ILLEGAL:

Devices that fly or explode, including firecrackers, skyrockets, bottle rockets, roman candles and any firework containing any explosive or flammable compound, are illegal in Connecticut.

Illegal fireworks are dangerous and result in serious injuries every year. These fireworks are the source of numerous complaints and decrease the quality of life of our community. The public should be aware that use and possession of illegal fireworks may result in enforcement action that can include infractions and/or arrest.
