2 Teens Arrested for Creepy Clown Posts on Social Media in Naugatuck: UPDATE

Naugatuck police say two females created the social media accounts, which led police officers being stationed at each school Tuesday.

NAUGATUCK, CTThe Naugatuck Police Department has made two arrests in regard to the “clown” social media postings that were made yesterday, police said in a news release late Tuesday.

The arrested subjects are both teen juvenile females under the age of 14, one residing in Naugatuck and the other from Stratford, police said. Both juveniles were charged with disorderly conduct and conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct.

The arrests stem from a social media profile name the girls created by the name of “Jackson the Clown” with a posting of “Will be in Naugatuck / Be careful / Lock your doors / which school wanna go first?” police said.

The posts were made with various photos of clowns attached. The posts made by the teens yesterday led in part to a decision to place police officers at each Naugatuck school today as a precaution and added safety measure, police said.

Naugatuck Superintendent of Schools Sharon Locke in a voice mail message to parents and staff said police have informed her that arrests have been made in connection with the clown posts that appeared on social media Monday.

Locke said there is no active threat against the Naugatuck Public Schools and it will be business as usual on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, police officers were stationed at every school in Naugatuck due to the appearance of clown posts on social media targeting Naugatuck schools. While police were at every school Tuesday, officials said this was done out of extreme caution and that there never was a credible threat against the Naugatuck schools.

The Naugatuck Police investigation into social media clown postings is ongoing. The Naugatuck Police Department is asking anyone that might have information regarding these incidents to contact the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at 203-720-1010.

Written by Naugatuck Police Lt. Bryan Cammarata,

School update time again!! ... Know that all is going very well at the schools today ... lots of "book learnin" happening ... and very little "clowning around" ... (Yes - I had to go there!) ....

... We have been reading the replies to our posts over the past day ... and I'd like to address some questions regarding this whole "clown" thing...

First know that the investigation into the actual posts were from and where they originated is ongoing ... The process is a bit tedious for law enforcement as there is a process to obtaining the information from the various social media sources ... rest assured our investigators will continue to thoroughly investigate all leads ... hopefully leading to enforcement action .... I will keep all updated as the investigation progresses.

... second - The police presence in the schools is in a full enforcement effort ... based on how the day continues to progress we will be making a decision with the board of education to determine how tomorrow will be handled .... but please be assured that regardless your children's safety will be paramount to all those of the Naugatuck schools and the NPD ... the schools will continue to be patrolled and our presence will be seen and felt as we move beyond this incident ... but again, how we progress from today will be determined as the day moves along.

and last .... will I ever again "like" clowns .... well .... its not likely .... they are creepy characters .... and the only ones I really ever liked were "Homey the clown" and "Crusty the clown" ... hardly the clown ambassadors ... The jury will need to remain out on this question folks ....

In closing - know that we will maintain our enhanced presence through the end of each schools day ... including the busing process at the end of each locations school day ....

Relax and know that ... we will be here
Thank you - The NPD ....
