Naugatuck Resident - SCSU Football Player - Receives Top Recognition

Griesenauer has been an integral member of the squad over the past four seasons.

Senior tight end Ryne Griesenauer (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the Southern Connecticut State University football team has been named as a semifinalist for the 2017 Campbell Trophy, as announced on Wednesday by the National Football Foundation.

The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 28th William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Griesenauer has been an integral member of the squad over the past four seasons. Seeing action on special teams, the wide receiver and tight end positions over his career - including extensive action as the team's starting tight end - he has totaled 33 receptions for 407 yards and five touchdowns.

Griesenauer has been previously recognized for his academic success as a 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District selection and as a two-time selection to the Northeast-10 Conference Football All-Academic Team. He is also a multiple selection to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and as a Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award recipient.
