Loving Husband, Father, Veteran


WATERBURY - Mr. Frank F. Barbino, age 100, died peacefully on August 3, 2021 at his home. He was the husband of the late Trudy (DeIudicibus) Barbino, for over 60 years.

Frank was the son of the late Antonio and Palmina (Laspina) Barbino. He attended local schools and graduated from Crosby High School with high honors. A parishioner of Our Lady of Loreto Church, he was President of the Founders Club.

Frank was the proud son of Italian immigrants. He was fiercely patriotic and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as a radar specialist. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor after 1941, where he adopted and raised a puppy, Radar, who was shipped to his home. After his honorable discharge, Frank attended Post Junior College, where he earned a degree with honors in accounting. He was employed by Anaconda American Brass Company. He retired as its Chief Customer Service Representative, after 45 years of service and acquired a glass shop, which he operated until age 98. He was an incredibly hard worker all his life.

Frank lived his life on his own terms. He loved his wife dearly, spending every Saturday night on the dance floor, showcasing their extraordinary ballroom dancing skills. He considered himself a poet, writing rhyming poems for family, friends and acquaintances. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing golf at the Watertown Golf Club.

Frank loved the Waterbury community. He was President of the Buck’s Hill School PTA, served on the Republican Town Committee, the Board of Public Assistance and the Board of Aldermen (two terms), where he had a 100% attendance record. He was a Republican candidate for Mayor and a member of the Board of Directors for NOW, Inc. He was active in many Italian-American organizations and a Life Member of the VFW in Oakville. Frank was also very proud of his service as a volunteer Auxiliary State Police Officer.

Frank is survived by his five children, three sons, Anthony, John and Richard Barbino and two daughters, Marianne Barbino Dubuque and Patricia Barbino; 13 grandchildren, David, Kim, Nicholas, Michelle, Lindsey, Alexa, Anthony, Sabina and Vanessa Barbino, Daniel, Kevin and Erin Dubuque, Amanda Olson; three great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Melissa and Anthony Richard Barbino and a son-in-law, Ron Dubuque. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Faiia; several nieces and nephews, including Sandi Eustace, Gary Pavlak and Kathy Mosgrove; and his dear friends, Sharon Farnham, Patsy Musco, Jane and Audrey Pace, Vita Ciullo. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Angelo and by his sister, Mary Commendatore.

His family would like to thank the Season’s Hospice team, especially Ryan and Dr. Michael Savarese for his compassion and wonderful care throughout Frank’s lifetime.

His funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 10:00 AM at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main Street, Waterbury. The mass will be live-streamed on the Basilica’s website. Family and friends may visit with the family in the church hall from 9:00 to 9:45AM. Burial will be private.
