Pedestrian Killed In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash: Waterbury Police

A 78-year-old pedestrian was killed in the crash, police said.

WATERBURY, CT β€” Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle crash and are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.

At 8:44 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the area of 638 East Main Street, police said.

Officers found the pedestrian victim who was struck by a vehicle, which then fled from the scene, police said. The victim was identified as a 78-year-old Waterbury resident, and he was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, police said.

On Sunday, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced as deceased by hospital staff, police said.

WPD investigators have identified the striking vehicle in this hit-and-run accident as a dark-colored SUV, possibly a RAV4 with sustained damage to the front end of the vehicle, police said. Investigators are seeking the assistance from the public to help in locating and/or providing any information regarding the involved vehicle and/or operator of the vehicle, police said.
