Plans Change Quickly For Former General DataComm Headquarters Site

Naugatuck officials say they hope to announce new plans within a couple of weeks.

Some bad and good news concerning the future of the former 10-acre General DataComm headquarters at 6 Rubber Avenue.

The bad news as it were is the borough leaders declined to renew their option with an architect, who planned to develop the land into a 96-unit affordable housing facility for local artists, and it would have included office space as well, the Republican-American reports.

The $80 million project required a lot of financial backing in the form of grants that never materialized.

But the good news is, town officials say they are close to announcing a new option on the land, which could be announced in a couple of weeks. Officials declined to comment on the new potential use for the land, which the town paid $2 million for in 2013.
