Possible Pepe's Pizza in Waterbury: Would You Go?
An intriguing question was posted on The Waterbury Observer's Facebook page — will people support Pepe's if it opens?
There’s no shortage of pizza places in the area. Naugatuck clocks in at 13, according to Yelp, a business review site.
Oxford has three pizza places, while Southbury and Middlebury have seven each, Yelp reports. In nearby Waterbury though, that’s where pizza takes the prize — there are at least 48 places where people can partake in pizza.
If one more pizza place were to open in the city, would patrons support it? That’s the question The Waterbury Observer asked on its Facebook page recently. The newspaper writes:

“The Observer has confirmed that Pepe’s Pizza (selected the Best Pizza in America) has an interest in opening a franchise in Waterbury and is looking at locations in the West End and the East End of the city.”
The Waterbury Observer’s source reportedly told them it’s still too early for concrete details and even if a Pepe’s Pizza opened in Waterbury, it likely wouldn’t happen before 2016.

Pepe’s Pizza has Connecticut locations in New Haven, Fairfield, Manchester, Uncasville, Danbury and West Hartford. The White Clam pizza at Frank Pepe’s of New Haven was indeed named “The Best Pizza in America” for 2014 by The Daily Meal.
“This is a Northeastern pizza genre unto its own, and Pepe’s is the best of them all — freshly shucked, briny littleneck clams, an intense dose of garlic, olive oil, oregano, and grated Parmesan atop a charcoal-colored crust,” The Daily Meal writes. “The advanced move? Clam pie with bacon.”
Do you think a Pepe’s Pizza will prosper in Waterbury? We’d love to know your thoughts in the comment section below.
