As police officers we sometimes don't know where we stand with the public and our communities based on what's happening around us in the country ....

....It seems like our profession is on a roller coaster of feelings and emotions aimed towards policing based on the series of different events that seem to occur almost daily ....
....In the past few weeks we have seen officers in Orlando rush to a night club mass shooting followed by praise for their swift and "unbiased" actions.... then the officer involved shootings in Baton Rouge and Minnesota this week that have seemingly painted all police officers as "racist, biased, and trigger happy"... Followed by last nights sniper shootings of police officers in Dallas .....
...It's tough times for the career of a police officer .... But it's the career we all took an oath for regardless of the times, good or bad....
This morning - a simple act has touched many of us here at the Naugatuck PD... As the sun rose above 211 Spring Street, it was noticed by officers both arriving in for duty and those finishing up their overnight tours that someone .... Left a dozen flowers wrapped in pink at the foot of our flagpole ....
That small sign is a very big gesture as it shows that "our" service .... "Ours" being "All police officers", as we all carry the burden of each other's actions .... Is appreciated by members of this great community ....
On behalf of all the women and men of the Naugatuck PD .... Thank you .... We will be here ....
