Multiple crews responded to a structure fire Monday afternoon in Naugatuck.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Crews extinguished a “stubborn” fire at a home on Hillside Avenue in Naugatuck on Monday afternoon, according to officials.

Crews responded to the 200 block of Hillside Avenue around 12:45 p.m. on the report of a structure fire. The first-arriving crews confirmed a fire on the second floor outside porch that was “quickly developing and spreading” to the interior of the second and third floor, according to officials.

“Crews established water supply and stretched hand lines to make an attack on the fire,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “Two engine companies from Waterbury along with Beacon Hose Co#1 and Middlebury Fire were called to the scene to assist. Naugatuck C2 established command. C1 & C3 assisted with the command of the fire. Naugatuck Ambulance and Naugatuck PD were also on scene. Hose lines were stretched thin.

“The fire became stubborn to fight because of hidden void spaces within the older home. Crews were backed out and a defensive attack began to get fire under control before they went back inside. The fire was successfully extinguished. No injuries were reported.”
