Thomaston Man Scammed Out Of $30K By Man Posing As Microsoft Worker

The scam was initiated by a computer popup alert from "Microsoft" that claimed their financial accounts had been hacked, police said.

THOMASTON, CT — A fugitive from justice has been extradited from New Jersey to Connecticut after being accused of scamming a Thomaston resident out of $30,000, according to the Thomaston Police Department.

Police first received a fraud complaint in January, when the resident said the scam was initiated by a computer popup alert from "Microsoft" that claimed their financial accounts had been hacked and that they needed to call a specific phone number to resolve the problem.

Over two days, the scammer — later identified as Ande Jiang, 25, of Highland Mills, New York — told the resident to withdraw $30,000 and deliver it "so new accounts could be set up," police said.

Jiang was taken into custody in New Jersey on April 27, when he was charged as a fugitive from justice. He was extradited back to Connecticut Tuesday and charged by Thomaston Police with two counts of second-degree larceny and two counts of second-degree telephone fraud.

He was held in lieu of a $300,000.00 bond and was arraigned Wednesday.
