Trivia Night Fundraiser Held in Naugatuck

The Naugatuck Community took part in Rising Above the Waters Trivia Night to aid two local business owners that were impacted by flooding.

On Tuesday, September 10th, the local Naugatuck Community took part in Rising Above the Waters Trivia Night to aid two local business owners that were impacted by the recent flash flooding in Naugatuck. The Coffee Shoppe - affectionately known by locals as Burnsies - and Water Street Pub & Barber Shop have been closed since August 18th due to extensive water damage, sustained after rain fell so rapidly that the storm drains couldn't keep up with the torrential downpour. These small businesses are run by young entrepreneurs who have invested everything they have into their dreams of serving our local community. Burnsies has been a fixture in Naugatuck for as long as I can remember. Water Street Pub is newer, having just celebrated their one-year anniversary in July.

DJ Trivia of Central CT graciously sponsored the event, providing equipment and the evening's 4-round trivia game. Liz Fridinger, who hosted DJ Trivia every Tuesday evening at Water Street Pub, volunteered her time and talents to run the game. The community donated some incredible raffle prizes, and we also had a 50/50 drawing. As a surprise, 7 lucky winners had a gift card under their seat!

I'm proud and excited to say that, with the help of our amazing community, we raised over $4300, which was split between the owners of each business.

So many local businesses and residents stepped up and helped out that it is hard to properly thank them all. In addition to DJ Trivia providing the evening's entertainment, Mayor Pete Hess and Wayne Malicki secured the venue for the event. The Loaded Goat Coffee Company donated a TV and served as a repository for the community to drop off raffle items. Other local businesses that donated raffle prizes were:

66 Church

Countless other gift cards, baskets, and crafts were donated by individuals, such as 2 original paintings by local artist, Amy Pomerenk. For a bit of fun, Water Street's beloved bartender, Kyle, raffled off a date with himself and we had a Mystery Box - we're still not quite sure what was in it!

We are also grateful to Allene Bosco, Keith Dwy, John latanowich, and Tammy Moore, for volunteering their time to help us set up and sell raffle tickets.

Competition was fun and fierce as teams flexed their trivia skills. Although the Drama Mamas talked some smack, Team High Waters took first place, with Elohssa's Eggheads in second and Alcohol & Empty Promises in third. Other teams competing were:
