WATERBURY, CT — A newly-released arrest warrant shows a Waterbury police sergeant is accused of sharing sensitive law enforcement information with a retired member of the department who was the subject of a threat investigation.

On Thursday, state police arrested Waterbury Sgt. Donald Robinson, 66, of Waterbury, on a warrant and charged him with interfering with an officer and fifth-degree computer crimes.

State police made the warrant public on Friday.

According to police, Robinson shared sensitive CAD information with a retired Waterbury sergeant on Dec. 11, 2025.

CAD is short for Computer Aided Dispatch information software, which is used to share information within law enforcement after citizens contact police. According to state police, CAD contains privileged law enforcement data, and typically includes sensitive and privileged information, such as personal information about complainants, victims and suspects.

In December, Waterbury police began investigating a threat complaint against the retired sergeant, which had been lodged by another individual, the warrant shows.

The man filed a complaint with Waterbury police claiming the retired officer had verbally threatened him during a podcast called “Brass City Beats.”

When questioned, the retired officer encouraged investigators to review the podcast, and he asserted to police no threatening comments were made.

While speaking with police, the retired officer disclosed that someone had sent a picture to his phone of the CAD comments from the threatening complaint.

The CAD information indicated the complainant feared for his life after a former Waterbury sergeant threatened to kick his (expletive), according to the warrant.

According to the warrant, the retired cop told police he received the text message from Robinson. Police reviewed the text and determined the picture matched the actual CAD comments, the warrant shows.

According to state police, the information Robinson is accused of sharing should have been confidential at the time.

“This information should have in no way been shared to any individual outside of law enforcement, especially someone who may be considered a suspect at the time,” the warrant states.

According to police, for a police officer to share the information is a violation of state computer crimes law.

Waterbury Sgt. Joseph Morais said the department has put Robinson on administrative leave and has launched an internal affairs investigation.

Robinson turned himself in to police, and he is free on a promise to appear in court on Feb. 17.

According to Morais, Waterbury police determined the original threat complaint “did not meet the elements for criminal charges, and was classified as a verbal dispute.”
