WCSU Art Faculty Exhibition to Open Feb. 5

DANBURY, Connecticut — The Gallery at the Visual & Performing Arts Center at Western Connecticut State University, 43 Lake Ave. Extension, Danbury, will present the WCSU Art Faculty Exhibition, on view from Thursday, Feb. 5, through Sunday, March 8, featuring recent work by 21 faculty artists. They are: Ryan Ames, Sarah Anderson Lock, David Boyajian, Riley Brewster, Janelle Chandler, Leslie Cober-Gentry, Bruce Dunbar, David Flook, Phoebe Jane Hart, Bianca Ibarlucea, Aimee Jettee, Stacy Kolbig, Sabrina Marques, Colleen McGuire, Rob Nadeau, Andréa Rios, Lori Robeau, Ken Scaglia, Elyse Shapiro, David Skora, and Jack Tom.

The visual artists who comprise the faculty of the Department of Art create work in a variety of media and styles, reflecting the breadth of expertise they, as instructors, lend to the degree programs offered by the department. Degree programs include a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, or Studio Arts, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art, and a Master of Fine Art (M.F.A.) in Visual Arts.

Members of WCSU’s award-winning faculty are design professionals, fine artists, animators, and illustrators whose work is held in many public and private collections. They exhibit and publish their work both nationally and internationally in galleries, museums and festivals; are members of professional arts societies and guilds; and participate in research and artist residencies across the globe. The Gallery at The Visual & Performing Arts Center hosts a faculty exhibition approximately every five years; this year, the faculty work on display encompasses illustration, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, animation, collage, and photography.

An opening reception will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Gallery. Regular Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1- 4 p.m. An artist panel discussion will be held at a date to be determined. Admission to the reception, exhibition, and artist panel is free and open to the public; donations to support the programs of the Department of Art will be accepted.

Additionally, the Gallery’s book group, co-hosted with the WCSU Libraries, will read and discuss the book, “Light: A Day in Monet’s Garden,” by Eva Figes. Viewing of the exhibit, followed by the book discussion, is scheduled to take place in the Gallery at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4. The public is invited.
