• Connecticut storm recovery: Power restoration continues (rep-am.com) — New Fairfield was among the hardest-hit towns in this weekend’s storms, with more than half the town losing power, three reported house fires, and major closures along Route 37 that temporarily split the town in two. Crews are working around the clock to restore electricity and reopen blocked roads, while state officials coordinate extra help and warn residents to stay alert for additional heavy rain and flooding risks. 
• Candlewood Lake pirate ship sustains severe damage in Fourth of July storm (nhregister.com) — A well-known pirate-themed party ship on Candlewood Lake, Pirate’s Pride, was badly damaged in the same Fourth of July storms that hit New Fairfield and will need to be rebuilt. The vessel is a familiar sight to local boaters and a regular in New Fairfield’s Illuminated Boat Parade, and its captain is now seeking donations and skilled volunteers to help with extensive repairs. The crew escaped safely after one member was briefly tossed overboard by rough waves.
