3 DUI Arrests Made At New Canaan Checkpoint: PD
Officers also made several other arrests at the checkpoint.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police made three DUI arrests among others at a sobriety checkpoint on Old Stamford Road at the entrance ramp of exit 36 on the Merritt Parkway on July 1 and 2.
The checkpoint lasted from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The following people were arrested and charged, according to police:

- Carlos Figueroa, 25, of Glen Clove, N.Y. was charged with possession of more than half an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Yaminah Vagas, 26, of Trumbull was charged with third-degree assault after she struck the driver of a vehicle in the mouth.
- Wilfredo Tello, 38, was charged with drinking while driving. He passed field sobriety tests, but had an open canister of alcohol in the vehicle.
- Beiran Velaquez, 26, of New Canaan was charged with DUI and operating without a license.
- Andrew Wasencky, 41, of Norwalk was charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Jhony Relayze-Vasconzuelo, 45, of Stamford was charged with DUI.
