4 Luxury Vehicles Reported Stolen In New Canaan: Police Chief
All four thefts were reported Monday morning.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Four luxury vehicles were reported stolen in New Canaan last week and early Monday morning, the latest in a series of vehicle thefts over the past several months, according to Police Chief Leon Krolikowski.
The first thefts, of a 2019 Infiniti Q60 and a 2019 Audi A6, were reported Friday and occurred at the same home on Clapboard Hill Road.
"Both vehicles were unlocked with the keys inside," Krolikowski said, adding that "a set of golf clubs, house keys and garage door opener were inside one of the vehicles" when it was stolen.

In the second theft, a 2020 Audi Q7 was reported stolen Monday from a home on West Road. Thieves were able to make off with the SUV, because the key ring, which included the vehicle keys, had been left accidentally in the front door the night before, according to the chief. Two car seats were in the vehicle when it was taken, but nothing else of value was inside.
This vehicle was recovered in Newark, New Jersey, early Monday morning, Krolikowski said.

The final theft, of an unlocked 2020 BMW X5, was reported Monday from a home on Turtleback Road. Krolikowski said the keys had been left inside the vehicle.
Also, inside were the following:
- A file box containing personal and business information
- House keys
- Business keys
- Swiss Army knives
- A camping knife
- Jumper cables
- Prescription sunglasses
- Clothing
- Coronavirus masks
- An unmarked client location access badge
"As of today’s date our Department has investigated reports of 27 stolen vehicles and 43 thefts or attempted thefts from vehicles," Krolikowski said about this year. "It is probable that these crimes are being committed by gang members. Many towns in Fairfield County are experiencing similar crimes."
Patch reached out to Krolikowski for additional information about the number of vehicle thefts and break-ins last year, but did not immediately receive a reply.
The following are tips from Krolikowski that could have helped to prevent the thefts:
1. KEYS: When unattended NEVER leave the key to your home or key/key fob to your car inside a vehicle or in a place where a thief can find them. Do not leave the valet key, key fob or garage door opener inside of your vehicle.
2. SECURE VALUABLES: NEVER leave valuables in your vehicle. Often, identity theft occurs when drivers’ licenses and credit cards are stolen.
3. ALWAYS LOCK YOUR VEHICLES.
