When the neighboring retail space vacated at the corner of East Avenue and Cherry Street this past September, clothing consignment store owners Nicole Yannieh and Denise Friess wasted no time in expanding their nearly three year-old business, “DWR,” into the vacated space. Featuring designer women’s and children’s fashions, DWR has now doubled its square footage, and the bright and airy outfitting of the newly expanded store showcases racks of fashions that includes Gucci, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Prada, Burberry, Vince, Armani and more.
The name DWR stands for “Done with Retail,” which, for both Denise & Nicole, symbolizes the current state of the economy and the future of consumer shopping habits. Both feel that women still want to be fashionable and wear high-end labels, but no longer want or are able to spend top dollar. They agreed that a designer consignment shop would offer just that – high-end brands and quality labels for a fraction of the cost. In addition the store would offer the "new consumer" the opportunity to clean out their closets and earn some extra cash.
As Nicole notes, “People in New Canaan love designer fashions, and many are thrilled to be able to get a get them for a fraction of their original price. Co-Owner Denise agrees, adding, “It’s such fun to have people come in, because almost everyone finds something special – something that they really love. The new space has allowed us to double our selection of fashions, and we’ve seen a resounding response from the community.” Shoppers hunt through one-of-a-kind shoes, boots, coats, jewelry and accessories and often come in to put it “all together” for a special event.
