Outback Recording Studio Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Event

The Outback Teen Center would like to invite the community to attend the Outback Recording Studio Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Event on, Thursday, April 28 at 3pm.  Please join First Selectman Jeb Walker, the New Canaan Community Foundation, the Kiwanis Club, the Outback Board, and New Canaan teens to celebrate the completion of this new high tech space.

“This is a great opportunity for families and teens to view this exciting new venue at the teen center and to meet the recording studio staff”, said Nicki Jezairian, YMCA/Outback Program Director.  “It’s wonderful to see teens using the space and tapping into their creative sides.”

Research conducted by the Search Institute, who developed the "40 Developmental Assets," shows that it is important for young people to find something they are passionate about or “sparks”.   “Sparks” help give young people joy and energy, meaning, purpose, and direction. Pursuing one’s sparks helps young people make positive choices about their activities and use of time, helps them develop their potential to the fullest, and helps them contribute to their families, schools, and communities right now. Young people with sparks lead more caring, responsible, healthy, and productive lives than those who do not have sparks provided for students in grade six.”  (For more information on Thriving and Sparks or on the 40 Developmental Assets, please check out http://www.search-institute.org/.)

“As one of the Asset Building organizations in New Canaan we are hoping that the recording studio helps teens to find their “sparks””, added Ms. Jezairian.

The Outback Recording Studio is currently offering open hours for teens, to sign up to use the space, and after school programs for seventh and eighth graders.  Open hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 2:30pm-5:30pm and on Fridays from 4pm-5:30pm.

The Outback would like to thank the New Canaan Community Foundation and the Kiwanis Club for funding this new high tech space for New Canaan’s teens.
