Arrest Made in Stolen New Canaan Vehicle Case

Fingerprints led to the alleged thief, police said.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A Stamford juvenile was charged with stealing a motor vehicle from New Canaan.

Police were notified of the theft on Sept. 19, 2016 on Old Stamford Road. The keys were left in the vehicle overnight with the doors unlocked.

Stamford Police notified New Canaan Police on Sept. 21 that the vehicle was recovered.

"The New Canaan Police Investigative Section processed the recovered vehicle and were able to lift fingerprints from the rear view mirror which ended up with a match for a male Juvenile from Stamford," said Lt. Jason Ferraro, police spokesman.

Police applied for an arrest warrant for second-degree larceny and served it on March 17.

"This was a successful end to an all too common crime that is plaguing Fairfield County." Ferraro said. "Please protect yourself and your property, don’t leave your vehicle unlocked, don’t leave your keys in the vehicle and remove all valuables from your vehicle."
