Attacking Dog Shot And Killed By New Canaan Police Officer: PD
New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski released a statement Friday on the June 16 incident.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A New Canaan police officer shot and killed a dog that was attacking another dog on June 16 in the backyard of a home of an unnamed New Canaan resident, according to Police Chief Leon Krolikowski.
Only limited details of the incident, which occurred just before noon at an undisclosed address, have been released because as Krolikowski wrote in a statement, "this investigation is not complete, we did not intend to release information publicly, which could compromise the investigation."
The identity of the officer who shot the dog has not been released, nor has the homeowner's name and address.

Krolikowski added, "However, due to misinformation being posted on social media, we decided to release the below factual summary."
According to the release, the department was contacted by the homeowner at about 11:53 a.m. on the 16th, "who frantically stated that her dog was being violently attacked by an unknown dog in her rear yard. During the 911 call, the homeowner was screaming for help as she watched her dog attacked by the unknown dog. Officers were sent to the residence as a priority emergency."

The first officer to arrive at the home "saw the attacking dog biting and violently shaking the victim dog’s neck," according to Krolikowski.
The homeowner who called 911 and a neighbor had attempted to separate the two dogs by spraying water from a garden hose and using a hockey stick, but the unknown dog would not stop attacking.
"Fearing that the attacking dog would attack the two women or the officer and that the victim dog would be killed, the first officer on scene discharged his duty weapon to stop the attack. The attacking dog succumbed to his injuries after being shot," wrote Krolikowski.
The homeowner transported the victim dog to a local veterinarian hospital for treatment. That animal's condition was not disclosed.
"No additional details will be released until this investigation is complete," said Krolikowski.
