Autopsy Scheduled in Death of Mitchell Vazquez of New Canaan

Vazquez, 46, was a successful trader and is considered a pioneer in online trading currency.

An autopsy will be performed after New Canaan trader Mitchell Vazquez unexpectedly died at the age of 46.

It will be performed by the state Office of the Medical Examiner, said Lt. Jason Ferraro, police spokesman.

Vazquez was taken to the hospital Sept. 13 after being found unresponsive at his Father Peter’s Lane residence. He was declared dead at Norwalk Hospital.

There doesn’t appear to be signs of foul play, Ferraro said

Additional details couldn’t be released because the incident was a medical call, he said.

Stamford attorney Mark Sherman, a family spokesman, released the following statement: “Mitchell Vazquez was an accomplished business man and pioneer in the global foreign exchange market. He was also a loving father, step-father and life-partner to his fiancée. He will be deeply missed.”

Vazquez grew-up in the Seattle area of Washington state. In 1996 he started Global Capital Investment, a New York currency trading firm, according to his profile on Forex Markets. He is considered one of the pioneers of online currency trading.

Vazquez sued NBC Universal and journalist Teri Buhl in 2012. He alleged that a story she wrote contained false and defamatory statements. The case ended with a judgement without trial for defendants, according to court records.
