Black Bear Spotted in New Canaan Tuesday
It's the first reported sighting of a black bear in town this season.

NEW CANAAN, CT- The first reported sighting of a black bear in New Canaan this season occurred Tuesday morning.
The animal was spotted in the area of Oenoke Lane and several other streets in the area around 8:30 a.m., according to the New Canaanite.

There were five black bear sightings between April and September last year.
Black bears in Connecticut typically range in size from 150 to 450 pounds for adult males and 110 to 250 pounds for adult females, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

DEEP recommends people observe bears from a distance and to never attempt to feed them. Sightings can be reported to local police and DEEP Wildlife Division at 860-424-3011.
