If You See Something, Say Something

Because of the actions of one person, greater devastation was avoided.

The fire that occurred on Wednesday, November 9 at 10:30 in the evening was devastating to the owners and contractor.  The house is a new home just mere days away from move-in.  The fire caused damage to the exterior of the home near the garage.  The result - the move-in date has been pushed back.

There is, however, a silver lining to this story.  The good news is that a neighbor who thought she saw something out of the ordinary and acted – she actually got in her car and drove the area searching for the source of smoke that had made her suspicious - discovered the fire in its early stages, returned home and called 911. (She does not have a cell phone)

It gets better.  She then got back in her car and drove back to help guide emergency responders to the scene!

These actions most definitely saved this home from further damage – maybe even a total loss.  Although she does not want to be indentified, her actions highlight the importance of, if you see something – say something.

The homeowners are, of course, devastated by what has happened to their new home, however, they are fully aware that this good samaritan neighbor most certainly saved the rest of their home form much greater destruction.

This has been a good reminder of the difference we can all make – if we just act!  Would you?
