Ina Garten, aka the Barefoot Contessa, recently visited the Glass House for a private tour with friends Frank Newbold and Devon Fredericks (married to Eli Zabar). The tour was long-awaited–Garten mentioned that she grew up in a semi-modernist home built around 1952 in Stamford, Connecticut (the town just west of New Canaan, where the Glass House is located) and always wanted to visit the Glass House. She also said that she and her husband were married in the home that she grew up in, which is located on Long Ridge Road in Stamford, and is now unfortunately in bad shape.

On their behind-the-scenes private tour of the Glass House site Garten and friends had the opportunity to explore Philip Johnson’s 49-acre curated landscape, 14 architectural structures and world-class private art and design collection, including art galleries, the Library/Study, close access to the Pond Pavilion, as well as exhibitions and fresh flowers in the Glass House.

Glass House guide Kathy Karlik led their tour and said of Garten, “She was so incredibly gracious, humble and astute in her observations. What delightful guests it was such a pleasure!”
