Brian Williams Returns to Air Sept. 22
Williams, a New Canaan resident, will make his MSNBC debut after his suspension ends.

Former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is set to return to the news on Sept. 22.
He will work as a live breaking news anchor for MSNBC for coverage of Pope Francis’ U.S. visit, according to USA Today.
Williams was suspended in February after his account of a reporting tour in Iraq during 2003 was called into question.

NBCU CEO Steve Burke said that an extensive review found Williams made a number of “inaccurate statements” about his field experience.
“Brian now has the chance to earn back everyone’s trust. His excellent work over twenty-two years at NBC News has earned him that opportunity,” Burke said in a June statement.

Williams said he was sorry for saying things that weren’t true.
“I let down my NBC colleagues and our viewers, and I’m determined to earn back their trust. I will greatly miss working with the team on Nightly News, but I know the broadcast will be in excellent hands with Lester Holt as anchor. I will support him 100% as he has always supported me. I am grateful for the chance to return to covering the news. My new role will allow me to focus on important issues and events in our country and around the world, and I look forward to it.”
Burke also thanked Lester Holt for stepping-up and coming through for the company during a difficult time. Holt is the new permanent anchor for NBC Nightly News.
