Budget Request Includes Plans for Propane Tank Installation at New Canaan Schools: Report

The district also plans to replace large oil tanks with smaller ones.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Board of Education's capital budget request includes the installation of propane tanks at five schools and the replacement of large oil tanks which have reached their lifespan, reports the New Canaan Advertiser.

The largest item in the board's $4 million capital budget request calls for creating a dual-fuel system at five schools, which will involve the installation of the propane tanks and the replacement of large oil tanks with smaller ones. The town expects the first order of business will be the removal of the large oil tanks, which are reaching the end of their 30-year lifespan, New Canaan building supervisor Bill Oestmann told the Advertiser.

The project will cost an estimated $819,150. Town officials believe there could be cost saving involved in the project as well as having a backup system.
