Coronavirus New Canaan: Police Department Sets Up New Protocols
Officers will continue to respond to all emergency calls for service, medical calls, crimes in progress and other calls.

NEW CANAAN, CT — As New Canaan, the state and the country continues to grapple with the new coronavirus (COVID-19), the New Canaan Police Department has updated its protocols, according to Chief Leon Krolikowski.
The new protocols are designed to limit exposure between the public and members of the department, while continuing to provide the service that residents expect from the New Canaan Police Department.
As a result, officers will continue to respond to emergency, medical, crimes in progress and other calls, but access to the department's South Avenue headquarters will be restricted, Krolikowski said.

Additionally, the Records Department is closed, and fingerprinting services have been suspended. People can still request particular records by contacting the department.

Below is Krolikowski's announcement:
To combat the COVID-19 outbreak, flatten the curve, maintain the safety of our community, and the safety of the members of our Department we are temporarily adjusting our protocols.
- Officers will continue to respond to all emergency calls for service, medical calls, crimes in progress and all calls that require an officer to be physically present.
E and Tele-Policing When Appropriate
The New Canaan Police Department is temporarily requiring officers to limit their contact with the public for the safety of the public and the officers.
Non-Emergency Calls for Service: A determination will be made if an officer is required to respond to the scene. If it is determined that an officer is not required to be physically present, the investigating officer will contact the complainant via telephone, e-mail or video chat to gather information.
Access to our Building: Access to our building is restricted. If you are exhibiting any signs of illness, do not enter our building, but for assistance call 203-594-3500 (non-urgent) or 911 if urgent.
Our Records Department is Physically Closed to the Public: However, records requests may be directed to 203-594-3518 or via e-mail to ncpdrecords@newcanaanct.gov
Fingerprinting Services are Suspended: Our Department has suspended all fingerprinting services to the public until further notice. The decision to suspend fingerprinting is precautionary and intended to limit unnecessary exposure to the public and our employees.
Property: Questions regarding found or seized property should be directed to 203-594-3503. Property retrieval is limited and an appointment is required in advance.
Normal police service will resume at an undetermined date based upon the progression of the COVID-19 virus.
