Design Flaw Displaces Class at South School

A design flaw during a $2.6 million window replacement project at South School has forced a first-grade class to move from its planned room.

The project was originally supposed ot be finished before the start of the school year, according to the New Canaanite.

A delay in getting glass and frames pushed the project back. Obtaining the materials has been a large-scale problem for developers across the industry.

A code violation was marked by the New Canaan fire marshal in September for a missing egress window. The windowpane in that first-grade classroom will have to be redone. Under code the room can be used for adults, which is the case now.

The class was moved to what was going to be a meeting room.
