Doing Business in New Canaan: Serenity Therapeutic Massage
The first in a series of interviews with local business owners about working in town.
The name says it all..."serenity", "therapeutic" and "massage"...a great combination, and perhaps one of the best kept secrets in New Canaan!
Danielle Golightly, owner of Serenity Therapeutic Massage (STM), has been providing clients with the utmost care for the past 11 years, right here in New Canaan. Danielle is currently located at 58 Pine Street, the building owned by Newsbank.
I had a chance to sit with Danielle and ask her about her "story" and her "take" on commercial real estate in New Canaan.

Patch: What made you decide to open a business in New Canaan?
DG: I chose to open a business in New Canaan because I love the downtown area and the sense of community I felt from the residents...it was a great opportunity for me to grow my business in such a wonderful town...

Patch: What makes your business unique? What distinguishes what you do from other massage therapists?
DG: You get exactly what you ask for...my expertise is understanding the whole of the human body and how to treat each client based on their specific needs. Also, I have an extremely flexible schedule and I offer in-home massage therapy. I even work on Sundays to accommodate my clients.
Additionally, the range of services I provide are numerous, from athletes and "weekend warriors", college students returning home from school, geriatric or elderly clients with special needs (such as osteoporosis), post-surgery rehab, to active moms (who participate in yoga and kickboxing to name a few), and children. In addition, I am certified to teach infant massage to parents.
Patch: What are some of the things that you would like New Canaan residents to know about your business, that they may not already know?
Location as they say in real estate. I love my current location because it is convenient to the downtown but the parking is much easier for my clients on Pine Street.
Patch: What direction would you like to see for the downtown? What other types of businesses would you like to see come to town?
DG: I think it would be great to see more "trendy" unique stores, that most towns just don't offer anymore...it's great to shop at some of the national retail stores, but you can patronize those stores in almost any town...stores that address the latest trends will attract not only New Canaan residents, but non-residents alike and New Canaan business owners need traffic from outside New Canaan as well. Also, it would be nice if retailers and restaurants stayed open later at night to provide a more lively nightlife.
Danielle's closing comment regarding her business is, "Motion is life...keep moving" Certainly she will help you do just that!
