Driver Side-Swipes Another Vehicle, Drives Off: New Canaan PD

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 63-year-old Wilton woman was arrested on a charge of evading responsibility on Nov. 8 in connection with a motor vehicle accident in which she allegedly drove off after side-swiping another vehicle, according to New Canaan police.

No injuries were reported in the 8:15 p.m. crash, which occurred on Main Street near Heritage Hill Road.

Charged was Shelley Dempsey, of Deforest Road. "A subsequent investigation determined that Dempsey was the operator of the vehicle that side swiped another and kept driving," wrote police in a statement. "Dempsey did not report in due time the [motor vehicle accident] or stay at the scene of the [motor vehicle accident]."

She was released on a promise to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 21.
